Just yesterday I watched "Hester Street" for the first time in about thirty years. I loved it as much this time as I did the first time I saw it. Today I watched it again with my girlfriend, who hadn't seen it before, and she loved it too. Steven Keats was so good.
So good, in fact, that I was looking on line for more information about him, which is how I came across this. I remembered his performance from "The Friends of Eddie Coyle", one of my favourite films, but hadn't realised that it was the same actor. He seems to have had a great ability to get inside a part.
To me, Steven Keats was one of the GREAT actors of the 1970s; he attended Yale School of Drama, acted on Broadway, was nominated for an Emmy in "Seventh Avenue," and appeared in over 80 TV shows and movies. Yet today - he is hardly known; why? It is patently unfair that someone with his talent and his versatility should not be honored for his contributions to acting. As a longtime fan - I will never forget him...
I have recently started collecting the films and tv work of Steven Keats. I was too young to remember him, but his acting talents were recommended to me by a friend. I think he's a wonderful actor, can't take your eyes off him, he does command the screen and is still being remembered.
On a more personal note, of course I'd like to leave my condolences and thank you so much for giving us a space to remember and for all the photos. I enjoy your blog.
Steve was my best friend in the air force, of course it was Keitz but he like Keats like the author. We had great times and stories and went back and forth to Brooklyn together. The last time I saw Steve was in California on the set of Barneby Jones.I remember when Thatcher was born. I miss him.
I just saw "The Friends of Eddie Coyle" at a film series at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Steven Keats was tremendous. I'm so sorry for your loss.
